”Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,“ - 1 Peter 1:3-4 KJV

When we hear the word inheritance, the thought that comes to mind is what one will receive after the death of a loved one. It can also be while the loved one is still alive but most of the time, it’s received after their death. People are happy when they receive an earthly inheritance. However, like everything else here on earth we can lose it.
1 Peter 1:3-4 tells us because of God’s abundant mercy He has caused us to be born again into a living hope through Christ resurrection from the dead. This new birth gives us hope and provides us with blessings or an inheritance God has for us His children, that we will receive one day. This inheritance cannot be destroyed or be spoiled because it is kept in heaven. This is something we can look forward to, something that brings us joy. Not only when we get to heaven but even as we are here on earth God has promised blessings to us and He is faithful to keep His promise.
However, in the meantime, we will go through many testings and trials. We will suffer many things before we can receive the blessings or the inheritance. So what should we do? Always keep in mind, what we are going through is temporal. Psalm 30:5 - Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. We are protected by God’s power, through our faith. We must believe what God says.
Even Jesus endured the cross. He kept His focus on what came after the cross. Hebrews 12:2 says Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
When a woman finds out she is pregnant, she is excited. Yet to hold her baby she must go through the time of labor that is not pleasant, very painful at the time. Yet once the child is born there is joy and she forgets the pain. Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth suffered shame and the embarrassment of barrenness for a while but after that their joy was full.
Let’s endure the testing of our faith and may we be found faithful to the one who remains faithful to us. Let’s look forward to the glorious hope knowing the testings are for a time. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus! Joy is coming! Once we remain faithful, we will receive our inheritance.
