Today's Devotional

The emphasis of our scripture reference today is, ‘So the servants followed His instructions’. I am sure that we all have purchased an item, whether it’s a table or a bicycle etc. that came with instructions on how to set it up. However, many of us still tried to figure it out on our own and then found ourselves frustrated or taking more time to complete it than we should if we had followed the instructions.

Following instructions are very important. Throughout scripture, we read where God gave His commandments or specific instructions and always mentioned that if we obey them what the outcome of one’s life would be. God did not stop there, He also told us that if we disobeyed what the consequences would be.

From the very beginning of time, God gave instructions in the garden to Adam and Eve. God said, ‘do not eat of the tree in the middle of the Garden’ (Genesis 3:2-3). We know what the outcome was when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. We all are dealing with the consequences of their disobedience. We are living in a fallen world, fill with troubles and trials, whereas we should be living in a perfect world.

Yeshua was invited to a wedding and the wine ran out. Now picture this for a minute. This is a wedding, a special time for the couple and the wine ran out. That joyous moment could have quickly turned into an embarrassing moment. However, Yeshua was on the scene. At first His mother told Him that there was no wine. Yeshua’s reply to her was, ‘What is that to you and to Me? My time [to act and to be revealed] has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:4-5 AMP).

When the set time came for Yeshua to act and manifest who He was, He gave instructions to the servants. This was the moment for the servants to do what Yeshua said. Now remember, His mother had already told them whatever He says to you do it. What would have been the outcome if the servants had not obeyed at that moment when Yeshua gave the instructions? The wedding celebration would have been ruined.

Now I know everyone wants to go to heaven, but we cannot get there by doing our own thing. God has given us His Word of instructions that tells us what to do to get to heaven. Are we following His instructions? Many of us face unnecessary troubles because we are disobedient to what God has said to us.

I want to encourage us today, do whatever God says to do. Follow His instructions. “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.” – Isaiah 1:19-20 KJV
