"The Spirit of Adonai Elohim is on me, because Adonai has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” - Isaiah 61:1 TLV

Isaiah 61:1 teaches that God's power begins with His Spirit, not with our strength. When we feel weak, brokenhearted, spiritually weary, or caught in life's storms, God has not abandoned us. Instead, He often reveals His greatest power in our greatest weakness. As Paul later wrote, "My Grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9). God gives strength to the weary (Isaiah 40:29-31) and remains our refuge and strength in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Job's life is a powerful example. In a short time, he lost his children, wealth, health, and reputation. Though he grieved deeply and asked difficult questions, he did not turn away from God. Instead, he worshiped, saying, "Adonai gave and Adonai has taken away; blessed be the Name of Adonai" (Job 1:21). He trusted God's character even when he could not understand God's plan. Job remained faithful through the storm, continued seeking God, and eventually prayed for those who had wounded him. In God's perfect time, the Lord restored Job, revealing that God's purposes are greater than our pain.
Centuries later, Yeshua fulfilled Isaiah 61:1 when He declared that He was anointed by the Spirit to bring good news, heal the brokenhearted, and set captives free (Luke 4:18-21). Today, the same Holy Spirit strengthens believers to endure suffering, trust God's promises, and become instruments of His comfort to others.
When storms come, God's divine power is not always seen by removing the storm immediately but by sustaining us through it. Weakness becomes the place where His strength shines, brokenness becomes the place where He heals, and faithful endurance becomes a testimony of His Glory. Those who wait on Adonai will renew their strength, because the Spirit of Adonai is still present, still anointing, still healing, and still bringing hope to all who trust in Him.
