Seek The Lord God with All Your Heart & Soul

“And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul.” - 2 Chronicles 15:12 KJV

The people of God had turned away from Him and served idols. Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. “But when they, in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, He was found of them” - 2 Chronicles 15:3-4 KJV

In 2 Chronicles 14, it tells of a war, and King Asa was victorious because he cried out to the Lord. However, upon his return from the war, King Asa was met by Azariah the son of Oded. Through the Spirit of the Lord, Azariah had a message for King Asa. This is what he said, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you, 2 Chronicles 15:2 KJV.

Many today expect for God to be with them; but the question is, how many are with God? Like the children of Israel, many have turned away from God and are serving other gods. Yet when trouble comes, they cry out to God for help. God’s message to Asa was clear, if you stay with me, I will stay with you, if you seek me, you will find me; but if you do not, I will not be with you. Asa was encouraged by the words from God that were spoken to him through Azariah.

So, what did King Asa do? King Asa was encouraged by the words of the prophet, and he acted on the word from God. King Asa put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the Lord, that was before the porch of the Lord, 2 Chronicles 15:8 KJV. Not only that, but King Asa gathered all the people, even those who settled among them, because they saw that God was with him, and they offered burnt offerings unto the Lord, and they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul.

We too can follow the example of King Asa and the people of God. Put away all idols and stop chasing after other gods. Repent and turn away from the abominable things. Today, we do not offer burnt offerings of animals, but we offer our bodies, our lives as offerings to God. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service, Romans 12:1 KJV.

May our lives be as an altar unto the Lord, by living a consecrated life unto Him, daily demonstrating our desire to dedicate ourselves fully to God. Make a covenant with God, to seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Why not start today?!
