Know The God That Sees You!

“So, she named Adonai who had spoken with her El Ro’i [God of seeing], because she said, “Have I really seen the One who sees me [and stayed alive]?” This is why the well has been called Be’er-Lachai-Ro’i [well of the one who lives and sees]; it lies between Kadesh and Bered.” - Genesis 16:13-14 CJB

All of us have experienced a time in our life where we felt unseen. You found yourself in a hard place or a tough season and you question, ‘GOD where are You?’ ‘Are You seeing what’s going on?’ GOD seemed to be distant. Help seemed to be far. It is quite possible that where you found yourself is no fault of yours or it may be due to something you have done.

GOD had promised Abram a son. Years had passed and nothing happened. Sarai thought, why not help GOD make happen what HE promised. We’ve all been there – wanting to help GOD out. Hagar did not ask to be in the situation of being pregnant for Abram, yet her actions of treating Sarai with contempt resulted in harsh treatment and she ran away.

Hagar, a pregnant woman found herself in the wilderness by a well. We can only imagine how Hagar felt and what was going through her mind. Then the angel of the Lord appeared. The angel said to her, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from, and where are you going?” Hagar did not have a plan, but the eyes of GOD were on her. Sometimes we want to run away and hide from life’s challenges. We can hide from man, but we cannot hide from GOD. HE is the all-seeing eye. Nothing is hidden from HIM. When we are faced with difficult situations, we must run to GOD, first. HE is not surprised by the events in our lives.

During that difficult moment in Hagar’s life, she discovered GOD in a new way. So she named Adonai who had spoken with her El Ro’i [GOD of seeing], because she said, “Have I really seen the One who sees me [and stayed alive]?” vs. 13. The NLT version puts it this way, She said, “You are the GOD who sees me’. My sister, my brother, I want you to know that GOD sees you! You may not know where you are going, but know this, GOD sees you and has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘For I (GOD) knows the plans I have for you...’. GOD knows and GOD sees.

GOD is so mindful of us. The situation that you find yourself in, whether it’s your fault or not, know that GOD sees you. You have GOD’s attention. Like Hagar, HE will instruct you in the way you should go. Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left (Isaiah 30:21 NLT). Obey His voice! Obedience is better than sacrifice!

Right there in the wilderness, Hagar found herself next to a well. When she encountered GOD, she gave the well a name. This is why the well has been called Be’er-Lachai-Ro’i [well of the one who lives and sees]. Our GOD lives and HE sees. HalleluYah! HE does not sleep; HE does not slumber! Indeed, He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD Himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade (Psalm 121:4-5 NLT).

Know that GOD sees you!
