“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows.” - James 1:17 NIV

The bible often compares goodness with light and evil with shadow and darkness. God is the Sovereign Creator of the sun, moon, and stars. He gives us good gifts and illuminates our minds to see the goodness in these gifts. As His prized possessions, we are the ones who receive a foretaste of future blessings.
God is the generous Giver of every good thing, shining upon us the light of His Love and purity. Though we fall short, He never abandons us, but continually pours out His goodness and grace: “Every good and perfect gift is from the Father of lights.” Our Heavenly Father is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and His kindness toward humanity never changes.
By His Grace we receive blessings we do not deserve, and by His Mercy we are spared the judgment we do deserve. While we were dead in sin and estranged from our Creator, He revealed His boundless Love by sending Yeshua, His beloved Son, as the sacrifice for our sins.
No greater Love could ever be shown than this: that He gave His Son to die on the Cross for us. If God did not withhold His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also, with Him, freely give us all things? Surely we can trust Him to accomplish His purposes. How empty it is to doubt His Word!
Many blame God for their troubles, forgetting that we live in a fallen world where sin—our own or that of others—brings pain and sorrow. Yet even when the enemy tempts and trials weigh upon us, God remains good. In His Grace, He uses those trials to strengthen our faith, producing endurance and maturity in Him.
The Creator of heavenly light is also the Author and Perfecter of our faith. His Word is faithful and true. He will never break His promises or fail in His goodness, for with Him there is no shadow of turning.
He is the eternal, unchanging God—constant in character, unfailing in Love, and steadfast in Grace: “Every good and perfect gift is from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” As He declared long ago: “I am the Lord, I do not change.”
