Faith In The Fire

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you." -1 Peter 4:12 (ESV)

When "fiery trials"…intense hardships, grief, or crises hit, our natural reaction is surprise and fear. We wonder why God allows such pain. However, Peter urges us not to be alarmed. These moments are not random accidents; they are orchestrated refining fires designed to purify our faith and remove impurities, similar to how gold is refined.

What you are to do is:

Trust in the Midst: God may not always spare us from the fire, but He will always be in the fire with us, sustaining us.

Purpose in Pain: These trials are temporary and meant to reveal God's Glory in your life, building deeper intimacy with Him than "sunshiny days" ever could.

After building trust in the midst of the fire and understanding the purpose of your pain, it’s time for application.

Stop Surprising: Acknowledge that trials are a normal part of life in a broken world and do not mean God has abandoned you.

Entrust Your Soul: Actively surrender your fear and the outcome of your situation to God, trusting Him as a faithful Creator.

Refuse Fear: Do not let the "smoke" of chaos cause panic. Walk through the fire with the Peace of God, knowing He is your anchor.

There’s three main truths on trusting God:

Expect Refinement: View trials as opportunities for growth, rather than just obstacles to avoid.

Rejoice in Participation: The struggle connects you intimately with the heart of Jesus, who endured suffering.

Focus on the Future: The glory that will be revealed far outweighs the temporary pain of the present trial.

Hope this was helpful to some of you, because many of us are walking through our fiery trials and wondering, “Where’s God right now?” “I know what I heard, so why is nothing happening?” “Is God not fighting for me?” Yet, I dare to tell you the God that answers by fire is your God and that fire cannot burn you! He promised in Isaiah 43:2, “When you go through the fire, I, your God will be with you. when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Heyy!!! HalleluYah! Now, let us pray…

Father, I admit that this trial is overwhelming and I cannot navigate it alone. I choose to stop trying to figure everything out and instead trust in Your character. Refine me in this fire, draw me closer to Your heart, and help me to stand firm. I entrust my life to You. In Yeshua's Name…Amen.
