Be Imitators of God - Walk in Love!

Follow God’s example in everything you do, just as a much-loved child imitates his father. Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, for Christ’s love for you was like sweet perfume to him. Ephesians 5:1-2 TLB

One of the things that we see young children do, is imitate their parents. The children pay keen attention to their parents and acts in the same manner. The children may even verbalize it and you would hear them say, mom or dad, I want to be just like you. Many times, one may question the behavior of a child, but you do not have to look far, just look at the parents.

As children of God, how much more are we to be imitators of God? As children of God, we should imitate God our Father. When we were sinners, we followed the pattern of the world. Now that we are children of God, we should follow the ways of God. Our attitudes, our character and our practices should be the same of God, we should live to forgive and love as He did.

One of the ways that we are to imitate God is to love the way He loves. But now these three remain - faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love – 1 Corinthians 13:13 TLV. When Jesus walked the earth, He demonstrated love to the people He met. He did not love them because He was looking for something in return, He loved them because He knew the heart of the Father. Love is action. Saying you love is not enough, but demonstrating love makes the difference.

Most of us knows what I would call the love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13. I would highlight a few characteristics of what love is. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is longsuffering. Love rejoices in the truth. Love is always hopeful. When we look at our lives, can we say we are imitators of our Lord? There is nothing more powerful than love. Even Yeshua said, A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:34-35 KJV

Let’s imitate God our Father, who through His Son, our Lord demonstrated His love for us. As we go through the day, demonstrate love to one another. Demonstrate love to those who are not in your circle. Be kind! Be patient! Demonstrate love to those who are unable to give you anything in return. Let our love for one another and for others, be as sweet perfume unto our Lord.

Be imitators of God!
