Wait On The Lord...Patiently

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1 NLT

Many times, when we find ourselves in difficult situations, we become desperate and want an answer or a solution right away. No one likes waiting, and the truth is waiting is not easy. We may cry out to God for help and do not get an immediate answer. We may wonder, where is God and will He answer. Because we do not like waiting, we tend to go ahead of God and try to help ourselves. Sometimes, trying to help ourselves makes matters worse.

In Psalm 40:1, David said he waited patiently for the Lord to help him and God turned to him and heard his cry. There is something very important here that we must take note of. David waited patiently for God to help him. Do you know why David waited? He waited patiently because he knew God would help him. David knew God. He had experienced God many times before. He knew God’s character; that God was a deliverer and would not leave or abandon him. Even if God takes long to answer, He will answer. David was confident that God would hear his cry, that God would turn to him and that God would answer and that is why he waited.

David was not disappointed when he waited on God, rather he benefited when he waited on God. When God hears our cry and turns to answer us, we must know that God will do what is best for us. God always goes beyond our expectations. When God answered David, there are four things that God did. 1. God lifted David out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. 2. God set David’s feet on solid ground. 3. God steadied David as he walked along, and 4. God gave David a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to God, vs. 2-3a. WOW!

Do you think David expected all of that from God? Though David may not have known exactly what God would do, because he knew that God does exceedingly, abundantly above all that he could ask or think, David made a wise decision to wait on God. What do you think would have been the outcome if David had not patiently waited on God? David was not the only one to benefit when he waited on God. The scripture goes on to tell us that, many will see what God has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord, vs. 3b.

When we wait patiently on God, He will answer us beyond what we could image and others will see and hear and put their trust in God. Our trials, our waiting brings glory to God! Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord, Psalm 27:14 KJV.
