This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8 KJV

We have been given the word of God as the manual for living a godly life. We do not have to wonder around trying to figure out what God requires of us. It is clearly stated in the bible, which is the word of God. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV.
The world defines success by having an excess of everything. The world teaches to have success; you must work hard and try every means necessary to have success. We see people sacrificing their very family to get more and more things. We see people setting up schemes, being deceitful and even stealing in order to live a certain lifestyle that will impress others. I do agree it’s good to work hard, however, as believers, God’s word tells us how we can be prosperous and have great success.
First of all, success according to God is not measured by the many things one may have. And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth, Luke 12:15 KJV. As children of God, success first starts by knowing and obeying the laws, commandments or the principles of God. The scripture tells us the book of the law shall not depart out of our mouth, but we should meditate on it day and night.
It does not end there, it’s not enough to just read the word of God or to know it, but we must observe to do all that is written therein. That is the key to success God’s way. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it; James 1:22-25 NLT
Hear me well and take heed! There is absolutely nothing wrong in being prosperous and having great success, but your motives must be right and the way you go about it must be pleasing to God or let me say, must be done God’s way. Let me also remind you, success is not only about having things, but also having a successful marriage, relationships, raising your children right and see them living for God. Remember, things will fade away but when you instill principles and morals in your children and you see them living a life pleasing to God, for me this also is great success. Great success is when the life you live impact others and is a blessing to others.
He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. “But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed; Deuteronomy 8:17-19 NLT.
