Do You Know Who You Are?

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. - 1 Peter 2:9 KJV

How many of you have looked at yourself and wondered if God can use you? Many times when we think of being an instrument in God’s hand, we think of Him doing something great with us. Some of us may never have a big platform for the world to see, but God can still use us for His glory.

When God chooses to use us, it’s to bring glory to Him and not to ourselves. At this time Aramean raiders had invaded the land of Israel, and among their captives was a young girl who had been given to Naaman’s wife as a maid, 2 Kings 5:2. Here is this young girl, her name was not even mentioned, she was a captive and a maid. I’m sure to many people, she was considered insignificant.

Do you consider youself as insignificant because no one knows your name, or you are a maid, a bus driver, a stay at home mom? This young girl had something that marked her as significant. She knew the God of Israel. Though she was a captive and a maid, that did not hinder her from speaking about her powerful God.

Her master, Naaman was a mighty warrior. Let’s look at his life compared to hers. Naaman was a commander in the army. The king had great admiration for him, The Lord had given the king great victories through Naaman. I am sure he was a household name; everyone knew him. I’m sure many would choose his life over hers. However, there was one thing wrong with Naaman; he had leprosy. I’m sure he visited many physicians and was not cured.

One day the captive maid said to Naaman’s wife, if only my master would go and see the prophet in Samaria, he would heal him of his leprosy. Naaman listened to the words of this captive maid who seemed insignificant and received his healing. Not only did he receive healing, but God’s name was glorified. Naaman said, now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. From now on I will never again offer burnt offerings or sacrifices to any other god except the Lord. 2 Kings 5:15b, 17b NLT

Do you still consider yourself as insignificant? Think again!
